General:
The Kinkaid Engineering, Math, and Science Institute was founded in 1975. Our purpose has been consistent since the beginning: to help under-represented youth identify their talents and appreciate their possibilities as educated men and women; to encourage under-represented youth to pursue college or university educations and, in particular, careers in science or engineering. Beyond these purposes, it is the hope that the Institute students will be worthy examples of academic ambitions and achievement in their Houston area schools.
EMSI is a sequential three-year program beginning the summer after 8th grade. During the three summers of the program, EMSI students will spend 4 weeks on the Kinkaid campus taking intensive and challenging academic courses in math, science, and computer technology.
EMSI is offered at no cost to program participants! The program is underwritten through the generous gifts from Houston enterprises, foundations, and community members. Tuition, educational materials, and transportation are fully provided by the Institute.
